Staré Město, formerly Jamnice, lies where the Ostravice and Morávka rivers meet, one kilometre from Frýdek-Místek. It became independent from Frýdek-Místek on 24 November 1990.

The Staré Město primary school and nursery school on Jamnická Street continue the school founded in the village in 1845. The Neo-Romanesque Church of St Joseph was built by Hanuš Pohl, a builder from Frýdek, and completed in 1904. The Sokol hall, built in 1929, was the first of its kind in the Frýdecko area.
